Why doing groceries on The Planet is earth friendly?

The goal of The Planet store is to make every component and procedure as ecologically friendly as possible, which required a different approach when founding the store. With the experience of creating Frisco.pl, The Planet team knew how to modify logistics processes to provide very high consumer quality while minimizing the negative impact on the environment.

Key elements that differentiate The Planet from traditional and e-commerce stores:

  • Paper packaging:

Seems simple and obvious, but the majority of dry goods are sold in plastic or merely resemble paper packaging. All private label products at The Planet (currently most dry products, soon to include spices) are packed in sophisticated paper packaging, which is also waxed with natural materials for greasy products.

  • Labels on citrus pomace paper:

Citrus pomace paper is used to print product labels, providing them with an attractive, sensory texture in addition to being environmentally friendly. In this way, we want to show that packaging made from natural raw materials can be aesthetically pleasing and of high quality.

  • QR code with product details:

The Planet’s products are only available online, so we were able to eliminate the counter label with legally required ingredients and nutritional information. Simply scan the QR code – a clearer solution than presenting product information on an additional traditional label

  • Bio products:

Our primary product line is Bio, which ensures that no environmentally toxic substances have been used during the production process. All products under The Planet brand are packaged by Bio Planet, which ensures a strict control process in this area.

  • Boxes – elegant, convenient, safe

Orders are delivered in unique boxes created especially for The Planet to satisfy three criteria: environmental friendliness, practicality, and safety. Customers may reuse and make them lasting due to their secure design and closing, which eliminates the need for plastic tape, which is typically highly damaging, to secure them. The Planet boxes are always colorful with friendly nature motifs. The paints used in their production are, of course, eco-friendly.

  • Supply chain

The largest CO2 reduction occurs in this area, although it is not visible to customers. The packaging of The Planet’s products takes place in the same location as the picking of customer orders. This eliminates the need for transportation between the manufacturer’s warehouse, the distribution center, and retailers. We seem to have achieved the maximum shortening of the grocery supply chain, both online and offline.

  • Customer Delivery

Parcel Locker delivery reduces the carbon footprint by more than 60% (InPost data) compared to direct home delivery. Furthermore, in the case of delivery by refrigerated transport through e-grocery stores, the percentage is even higher. When driving to a hypermarket, one’s carbon footprint increases (not including the CO2 emissions from the supply chain and retail operations). Home delivery by courier is also available, although it is not as environmentally friendly as Parcel Locker delivery. However, we decided to introduce this delivery option because of the possibility of placing a large order that would be too heavy for the customer to pick up at a Parcel Locker.

Earth-friendly groceries are a combination of many elements. We have tried to consider as many of them as possible when creating The Planet.

If you see any other areas that can be improved, we would appreciate you pointing them out, as we want to continuously minimize the carbon footprint of our processes.
